Having originally trained as a textile designer, I continue to be fascinated by the making process, despite having made the transition from practice to theory in 2005.
My working life has included making clothes and accessories, embroidering textiles for artists and fashion houses, painting sets and stitching costumes for dance and theatre companies. There was even a time when I designed and built shop window displays in return for ice cream and tickets to the circus.
While much of this still interests me, the making I do now tends to be confined to sewing my own clothes and documenting the visual environment through photography. I would love to have the opportunity to extend my making skills into the designed environment, and become more involved with street furniture design and the public realm more generally.
